The story is not equal to the memory. You need to distinguish them.
International students include so many people such as European, Asian, American and so on. And Asian also have Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Indian ect... All of them are are different. Focusing on a group of international students could be better.

The audience of your project is limited. Your project focuses on international students, but I am not one of them, and I can't get empathy. Because culture difference is normal. Everybody will experience it. Christian said, "your poster is very interesting.. interesting project. But I am not interested in it..."

1\My present tutor isn't interested in my project. Can I change the group?
2\I am not sure my project is about interactive design or participation design? How to distinguish them?

We can't chose tutor now. But you can get advise from different ways. Every tutor has international students even Chinese students. Find the audience who is interested in your project.
You don't need to distinguish between interactive design and participation design. You just need to know what you want to do, and how to communicate.
